For the past few weeks students have begun working with Autodesk Maya. From my understanding we have the largest Autodesk Maya lab in any high school in the province of Alberta with 35 workstations. If you know of a bigger one feel free to post a comment.
The first major project of the Maya initiative will be a moving model of our solar system, fully skinned and animated. Once the core components are in place, students will be encouraged to "round out" their models with no restrictions, adding in things like comets, etc.
While the program is indeed challenging (much like learning a new language) our students have quickly grasped concepts and are eager to learn more and more as each class progresses. Exciting times!
Highwood's Communication Technology program has purchased a lab set of the industry renowned software Autodesk Maya. This revolutionary product has been used to make major blockbuster movies as well as video games and a lot of people are excited to learn and use this very powerful animation program.
Work with Maya will begin in the fall of 2011. It's always a great day to be a Mustang animator!
