COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY GRADES 9-12
Students will gain an understanding of technological theory and practice as it applies to themselves, others, and society through the study of graphics, animation, audio/video, video game design and programming. With the foundations provided by these areas of focus, students will be equipped with a solid base that will enable them to be equipped learners when facing new digital challenges as technology evolves.
As well, students will see an increase in their ability to communicate ideas and information through technology. Students will also have the capacity to leverage their growing skills towards other areas of their education, enhancing projects in a variety of course areas with the assistance of technology.
Communication Technology is a flexible program and allows any grade level to participate in its multi-grade classes. Even if you have never done anything with technology before, we will get you going and provide you with a great foundation to work from. Once that is achieved, you will slowly increase your ability and understanding of the technologies we introduce.

Program Accolades
Highwood's CTECH students have achieved 5 provincial awards in animation in the last 8 years, including silver and bronze medals in 2013 and 2014, and silver again in 2017. In all students' first year of competition they had no prior experience with the software they competed with prior to taking Communication Technology courses at Highwood High School.
Highwood students have also went on to pursue careers in the video game industry, and to date we have had students employed by Capcom, EA, and the CBC respectively. Our students have also been approached directly for enrollment in prominent Art Institutes throughout Canada.
